SET-UP / BREAKDOWN
Volunteers will be needed before the festival begins and after it ends to help set-up rooms, vendors, signs, etc. and then pack away everything at the end of the evening.
GREEN ROOM ATTENDANT
A Green Room Attendant is in charge of the area that the performers and
volunteers rest in. The Green Room Attendant keeps the room neat. Since
there will be personal belongings, as well as food, in the Green Room,
access is granted to performers, the performers' guests and other festival
volunteers only.
GREETER
Greeters welcome people to the festival near the main entrance. They direct
new arrivals to the registration desk, and also point out where things are
located in the center. Greeters should have a Festival schedule and some
familiarity with facilities (bathrooms, performance spaces, vendor
locations, etc).
FLOATER
A Floater is a volunteer who will be assigned to help other volunteers or to
cover an area that the original volunteer cannot or has failed to cover. A
Floater should be familiar with the different volunteer positions and should
check-in with the Volunteer Coordinator periodically during their shift to
see where they are needed.
TIMER
Timers help the performers and the stage manager keep track of performance
times, so that the whole Festival schedule can remain on schedule.
The timer's job is to remind the performer where they are in their allotted
time. You will be issued a stop watch and colored cards. At "five minutes
to go," you will hold up a green card, at "one minute to go," you will hold
up an orange card and when their time is up, you will hold up a red card.
ROOM MONITOR / TICKET TAKER
A Room Monitor works for the Stage Manager to insure that the performance
session runs smoothly. The Room Monitor should help the Stage Manager
monitor for taping, photo taking or smoking, which are not allowed. Crying
babies or disruptive audience members should be dealt with gently but firmly
for the good of the whole audience. Tickets are checked as the audience enters the
performance space. A Room Monitor may point out available seating and should ask
late arrivals to wait until a break between stories before seating
themselves in interior seats. A Room Monitor should also take a "head count"
of the audience after the session begins and give this figure to the Stage
Manager.
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR ASSISTANT
The Volunteer Coordinator Assistant will help out at the volunteer desk and
take over when the Coordinator is called away. The Assistant will check in
volunteers, check scheduled assignments and may act as a Floater to cover a
position if no other volunteer is available.
STAGE MANAGERS
Stage Managers work with the Production Manager to make sure their room or
area is prepared properly for performances and that the tellers are in the
proper locations. Stage Managers also might be in charge of sound
equipment. The Stage Manager position may be a half day to an all day position depending on the number of stage managers available.
SOUND TECHNICIAN
The Sound Technician will be in charge of sound equipment, such as
microphones, CD/cassette players and the sound board for a room. The Sound
Technician needs to run mic checks with the tellers and troubleshoot
feedback or sound issues during performances. The Sound Technician position
may be a half day to an all day position depending on the number of sound technicians available.
The festival is from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm, but some volunteers will need to be at the festival around 7 am or stay until 7:30 pm. The festival will be at 4464 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City, CA 90230. Please contact the about position(s) you would be interested in and what time of day you prefer. If you know of someone else who would be interested in being a volunteer, please pass this information along to them. Also, if anyone would like to assist in marketing/advertising the festival, please let us know.
